Your Best Choice for Modern Vinyl Flooring
The New R1’s rigid structure enhances the strengths of modern vinyl flooring while minimizing it’s weaknesses, allowing you to specify the finished flooring that best meets your needs. Localized compression leading to premature underlayment failure and reduced acoustical performance are eliminated through R1’s incredible compression resistance and unique acoustical treatment properties.
Even better is that the new R1 delivers these specs using 25% less fire-rated underlayment. You can now specify 3/4″ of fire-rated underlayment, bringing the total height to 7/8″. lightening the load on your structure and helping to minimize structural settling and even further decreasing deflection due to load. Lighter and stronger than popular competitors?

More Than A Fire Rating
The New R1’s Interlocking Seam Technology creates a monolithic membrane that provides additional protection from issues of localized flooding and odor transmission between adjacent units. Specifying R1 in kitchens can help to reduce complaints from cooking (and other) odors by providing an impermeable barrier to adjacent units. R1’s monolithic polyethylene membrane provide lasting, in-place protection after installation. The same material installed bathrooms and utility rooms can help to minimize property damage due to localized flooding events, protecting adjacent units and reducing repair time and associated costs.
A Better Environment: Inside and Out
Produced from 95% post-consumer recycled content, R1 delivers it’s amazing performance while reducing environmental impact. Not only will you be improving the living environment of future residents and tenants, you’ll be doing so knowing that you’re taking steps to minimize global environmental impact. A commitment to responsible innovation.
Understanding IIC and STC Performance:
An Interactive Experience
Have you ever wondered how manufacturers determine IIC and STC ratings for their sound mats?
In this brief interactive experience you will learn how ratings are determined, and how the performance you think you’re specifying may not be what is being delivered.
Understanding IIC/Testing Methods and Results
Brief explanation of how testing works and how to fake it. Content will include animated tapping machine, cheating subassembly illustration (changes made from normal practices on tests and their advantage)
Interactive Frequency Demonstration
In the interactive tool below, you can hear the frequency ranges tested for standard IIC and STC tests. (Best experienced with headphones).
The frequencies generated by impact (walking, dropping, or other contact with the floor) tend to be transmitted directly through the subfloor assembly. Airborne sound transmission from sources like voices, TVs, and stereos tends to be stronger in the the higher frequencies.
Monofilament Performance
This section will discuss degradation and weaknesses of monofilament mats
The Case For Rigid Technologies
This section will illustrate the strength of R1 as compared to monofilament technologies
